"There are many ways to have an ethical, green, or sustainable Christmas. If there was one thing you would want people to do every day as well, what would it be?"

"The best gifts in life are free"

Well, we may not actually spend money on them, but all gifts have a cost.

So how would it be if you made a gift to another person each day that didn't require money but did require something from you?

How about giving a smile?
How about being careful to walk down the road with courtesy?
How about speaking to someone you would normally avoid?
How about praying for someone you dislike?
How about putting effort into befriending someone who makes you uncomfortable?

And if you give in this way, what might you receive?

Perhaps this kind of giving offers a true response to the one who comes among us in the midwinter of our souls?
