"If, like me, you hate getting out of bed in the morning, and you have to get up at some unearthly hour to go to work, you might well be so bad tempered that other members of your family have long given up attempting to have a civilized breakfast with you. This means that every morning we have to boil the kettle, use the toaster, wash the dishes separately - for me and then for everyone else in the family. At Christmas, however, we all (and especially me) make a great effort to cheerful and merry - and we have a sociable breakfast all together. This need not involve great conversations - it just means we are generally much nicer to each other and smile a bit more. It also means that we don't have to boil the kettle twice, use the toaster more than once - and can all wash up at one go using only one washing up bowl (dishwashers are highly unecological!)"
